PRESS RELEASE: Education Facilities Forum – 17 November, 2014

BUYING A BETTER WORLD

When it comes to aspects of safety, health and the environment, Hosking Associates warns schools to ‘buy smartly’

Hosking Associates warns schools to ‘buy smartly’ when it comes to aspects of safety, health and the environment (SHE).

The company, which works closely with schools to make them safe places to work and visit, and also makes them environmentally-friendly, will be presenting at the 2014 Education Facilities Forum [1] on the subject of ‘Buying a Better World’.

_DSC1970 (Small) [2]Louise Hosking, managing director of Hosking Associates, said: “The person at the top of any organisation is ultimately responsible for the way in which safety, health and sustainability is managed. Schools are no exception.

“When it comes to SHE, schools need to be armed with the right information, and they need to have a better understanding of how to buy smartly, in order to have a positive impact. They should address areas such as: buying work equipment, buying services, green procurement and managing contractors.”

During her presentation, Louise Hosking will address the health and safety implications during the procurement process, which will include assessing the suitability of work equipment and the associated PUWER regulations.

“Correct procurement means choosing the right equipment for the task, taking steps to ensuring it meets European requirements for safe design and installation, ensuring it is regularly checked and maintained, it is installed safely and that the manufacturer’s instructions are followed”, added Hosking.

“Equally, schools need to think about sustainable procurement – managing emissions, preventing pollution, saving money, energy and resources and looking towards relevant environmental accreditations.”

The presentation will cover the following areas:

Hosking Associates takes the management of health and safety in schools very seriously and has a dedicated division, Hosking Education Services, devoted entirely to helping schools achieve success.

About Hosking Associates

Established in 2005, Hosking Associates focuses on health and safety and the environment. It’s consultants help companies and schools create a healthy and safe environment for their workforce and anyone who comes to the premises.

The company works with organisations as the health, safety and/or environmental manager – either within organisations that prefer to outsource, or where an internal resource is not necessary.

Hosking Associates saves organisations money by helping them comply with the law. The team works in partnership with clients and doesn’t just run risk or impact assessments. Instead, they guide them through the process – giving them the tools, training and confidence to manage all aspects of health, safety and sustainability on their own.
